How many Hours do I need for my FIRST renewal?
For your first Texas real estate license renewal, you must complete 98 hours of education (90 hours of SAE courses + 8 hours of Legal Update I & II). These must be completed before your license expires to avoid penalty fees or inactive status.
What are SAE Courses?
Texas Sales Apprentice Education (SAE) 90 hours of qualifying education (typically three 30-hour courses), which must include a 30-hour Real Estate Brokerage course. You cannot repeat a course used to obtain your license, unless it’s been more than 2 years.
How many hours do I need for my license renewal?
Second and subsequent renewals require 18 hours of Continuing Education (CE).
What are CE Courses?
Texas Real EstateContinuing Education, including 8 hours of Legal Updates, 3 hours of contracts, and 7 hours of electives. These must be completed before your license expires to avoid penalty fees or inactive status.
Will hours collected after reaching my required renewal hours roll over to my next renewal?
No, if you have reached your required hours before your renewal date, classes taken before your expiration will not rollover. The count for your renewal will reset after your expiration date.
What is a Designation?
A real estate designation is a specialized, post-licensing credential earned by agents to demonstrate expertise in a specific niche. These titles indicate advanced training to clients and provide “instant credibility,” show a commitment to professional development, and help agents stand out.
What are some Examples of Designations?
- CRS (Certified Residential Specialist): For residential sales expertise.
- ABR (Accredited Buyer’s Representative): Focused on buyer representation.
- CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member): A premier designation for commercial real estate, notes the CCIM Institute.
- GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute): Focuses on comprehensive real estate training, as outlined by Champions School of Real Estate.

What is a member Benefit course?
Free education provided to Five Points Board members as part of their member Benefits. We offer over 18 hours of free education per quarter to meet your license renewals as well as member pricing for a majority of the classes offered by the Five Points.
I am not a member of Five Points, Do I have an account?
If you have registered for an event or a class through Five Points, you do have an existing account. If you are unsure about your account status do not hesitate to give us a call.
I am not a member but I have an account do I register as a guest?
If you have an existing account or have registered for a class or event in the past you will register as a Member and our system will determine the proper billing format for you.
I am not a member but I have an account, do I qualify for member pricing?
If the Five Points Board of Realtors is not your Primary board you will not receive Member pricing but you will still register as a member, our system will recognize that you have an existing account.
