Code of Ethics & Professional Standards

Code of Ethics

Members of the National Association of REALTORS®, Texas REALTORS® and FPREALTORS adhere to a strict code of the ethics; this is what sets a REALTOR® apart from a real estate agent.

NAR requires REALTORS® to complete ethics training of not less than 2.5 hours every three years. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®. In addition, code of ethics training must be completed within 90 days of joining FPREALTORS.

Fair Housing

REALTORS® are required to complete Fair Housing / Anti-Bias Training  upon becoming a member, and every 3 years thereafter, coinciding with the Code of Ethics training timeline. This requirement is in addition to the Code of Ethics training. This requirement began January 1, 2025 with a deadline of December 31, 2027

Professional Standards

REALTOR® professionalism and the Code of Ethics are upheld through Professional Standards. Texas REALTORS® handles our professional standards for us, which includes mediation and arbitration. Check out this graphic that explains how the Professional Standards process works.
